April, 2014 Newsletter

In March we celebrated Samantha, Erik, Emily, Maisie, Joe, Nathan, Jack, and Michael’s birthdays. Olivia, Katie, Zavion, and Ashley were Miss Laura’s Star Students and made fantastic presentations!

In March our morning themes were Dr. Seuss, rainbows, St. Patrick’s Day, and lions/lambs.  They were each enhanced with literacy, science, social studies, and math components. Miss Laura’s class did such beautiful work on their Dr. Seuss book reports.  They are now hanging in our classroom.  Our full day students rotated between afternoon weeks of math, language, social studies, and science, with literacy activities mixed in everyday with themes of science (wind), literacy (ducks for our younger students and an author study for our older), social studies (safety), and math (Math with Chicken Little).  Thank you to Joe’s mommy, a veterinarian, and her technicians for coming in and showing us a turtle, some lizards, and a snake, showing us x-rays of animals’ bellies and what they swallowed, and telling us all about her job. In April our morning themes of study will be bunnies/eggs, spring, Earth Day, and caterpillars/butterflies. Each week there will be a new letter of the week based on our theme.   Our afternoon themes will be pancakes (Social Studies), Kite Math, recycling, and B is for Bear (Miss Tiffany) the author Julia Donaldson (Miss Laura).

Thank you so much to all who participated in our spring fundraiser.  Our first program with the proceeds will be held on Thursday, May 1st and will be a concert called Animal Antics given by the performer Yossi.  All students are welcome at 10:30 that morning for the concert.

Parent/Teacher conferences for those who have not yet had a conference this year or for those who feel they would like another conference will be available in the afternoons during the week of April 21st.  We will be making up our snow days on Thursday, June 19th and Friday, June 20th.
