Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone had a nice, relaxing winter vacation and had fun with the kids in the snow!!
December was a busy month filled with holiday study, snowmen and gingerbread men, trains, trees, and candy canes. We wrote so much in our journals upstairs about these winter themes. The kids decorated the classrooms with their artwork and participated in activities while holiday music filled the rooms. We’ve been dancing and moving to a lot of new songs to enhance our gross motor skills as it has been too cold to run around outside! We all had a wonderful pre-vacation party. I’m sure your kids came home happy to tell you all about our puppet/magic show. Uncle John’s puppets had the kids roaring. It was so great for me and the teachers to watch their joy! It was fun coming to school that day with everyone on the same day and in our pajamas as we watched the Polar Express. Decorating our Rice Krispie treat trains after the puppet show culminated our fun-filled morning celebration.
Our afternoon sessions have weekly themes as well with an emphasis on Math on Mondays and Thursdays, Science on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Social Studies on Wednesdays. Literacy activities are mixed in everyday. Miss Tiffany comes up with so many creative activities for our afternoon kids! This past month some highlights were travel, holiday gift-making, and cooking. Miss Tiffany and Miss Melanie turned our classroom into airplanes and countries as we flew to and explored Egypt, Mexico, Australia, and Paris. In each destination, we looked at pictures of the country’s attractions, cooked a food popular in that country, and read a story with the country as the setting.
We met with many of you for parent/teacher conferences to discuss your child’s progress. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to set up a conference if you were not able to meet with us.
In January, some of our topics of study will be the New Year here and around the world, snow, polar bears, and penguins. In our enrichment afternoons, we will be focusing on our five senses. We’ll be conducting various experiments to test out each of our senses, and then will be using our math skills to graph and make sense of our findings.
Our next show for the kids (thanks to our fundraiser!) will be on Wednesday, February 2nd at 10:00 AM. It will be a concert given by Yosi. If your child does not come on Wednesdays, please feel free to send him/her that morning from 9-11:45.
Friday Night Babysitting is Friday, January 14th from 5:30-8:30 PM. Please let me know this week if you are interested.
Reminder: Please refer to the Stafford Township Schools website for any snow closings or delayed openings when there is inclement weather.
