December, 2011 Newsletter

I hope everyone had a wonderful, festive Thanksgiving! Thank you to all of the families who brought in delicious goodies for our annual Thanksgiving Feast and for coming in to help us celebrate. The kids were adorable in their Thanksgiving-themed accessories and did a great job with their finger plays.  It was nice to hear what everyone was thankful for.

In November, Miss Tiffany’s class worked on pumpkins, turkeys, children’s authors, and Thanksgiving.  The last week was centered around author Laura Numeroff.   Some of us are beginning to trace our names.  Miss Laura’s class did some great, stimulating units on Where the Wild Things Are, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Thanksgiving, turkeys, and Native Americans.  We are working on letter writing in our alphabet books, writing our first and last names, and practicing our letter recognition skills with alphabet games during choice time.  In the afternoons, our themes were pies, and activities around the book Rosie’s Walk.  Both classes are doing many hands-on activities such as cooking classes and art projects based on the themes they are working on.

In December, our themes of study will be penguins, reindeer, and the winter holidays.  We are looking forward to delving into these with many books, projects, and fun activities. Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for the week of December 12th.  Please see me if you did not sign up for a conference and would like one.  Progress reports will be given at that time.  On Thursday, December 22nd and Friday, December 23rd we will come to school in our PJ’s, have hot chocolate, and watch The Polar Express and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Our second Friday Night Babysitting evening is this Friday, December 2nd.

Our fundraiser items arrived this week.  I hope you are happy with your orders.  Please let me know if there is anything missing.  Using the proceeds from the fundraiser, we will be having a magic show on Wednesday, December 14th at 9:30 AM. All Happy Days students are welcome to join us for the show!  We will also be welcoming children’s author Rachelle Burke in January.

Happy Days is closed during the week of December 26th.  We will reopen Tuesday, January 3rd.

And finally, just a reminder to check every so often on our website,, for pictures of your kids in action.  We very much appreciate your referrals and give $100 referral awards.
