November, 2010 Newsletter
Dear Happy Days Families,
Happy Days welcomes Rocco and Vincent!
October was a very busy, productive month for us at Happy Days. Miss Tiffany’s units of study were bats, pumpkins, fire safety, and Halloween. Her class made so many wonderful projects, heard many great stories, learned the letters related to them, and were involved with math and science programs all revolving around the weekly themes. Miss Laura’s class focused on spiders, pumpkins, bats, fire safety, the fall, and Halloween. The class baked recipes, practiced writing letters, conducted science experiments, and listened to stories related to their themes. They continue to write in their journals. Miss Laura’s Star Students this month were Leo, Maria, and Kenna. They made beautiful presentations to their class, showing off pictures of themselves and family members and explaining a couple of special items they brought in. Both classes have been getting one-on-one time on our computer. We really enjoyed having the Manahawkin Fire Department visit us in the beginning of October for Fire Prevention Week! We celebrated Shae, Alex, Brooklynne, and Elijah’s birthdays.
Our afternoon sessions have weekly themes as well with an emphasis on Math on Mondays and Thursdays, Science on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Social Studies on Wednesdays. Literacy activities are mixed in everyday. Miss Tiffany comes up with so many creative activities for our afternoon kids! This past month some highlights were learning about what robots do and then making our own life size models, learning about the process of recycling and making our own Recycling Center in the classroom, as well as counting, categorizing, and graphing the recyclables we brought in from our homes, and making and observing the traits of our own slime!
Some of our topics of study for November will be leaves, the fall, Thanksgiving, turkeys, and scarecrows and crows. In the afternoon, our focus will be on nutrition and our bodies. We will be having a guest author give a presentation to both classes on Wednesday, November 10th as it is Children’s Author Week the first week of November. Miss Tiffany’s presentation will be at 10:00 and Miss Laura’s at 10:30. Ms. Russell will be talking to the children about her aspirations of becoming an author when she was their age, how she does her illustrations, and why she loves to write. She will also do a dramatic reading of her book. All parents are welcome to join us that morning, and any child who does not normally attend on that day or at that time are welcome to come in for the program. We will also be having a Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday, November 24th. More information will come home shortly with details of that program.
School is closed during the week of November 1st through November 5th. During that week, we will be getting new carpeting and a paint job! Hopefully your children will love the improvements they see when they come back! Our fall fundraiser is under way and the orders are due on Friday, November 13th. Our Halloween party is this Friday. Thank you to all of the parents who sent in items for our celebration! I hope all of the parents and kids had a great time!
Please remember that tuition is due on the 1st of each month. After the 5th of the month there will be a $10 late charge added on. Also, it would be very helpful to have your child’s items labeled (lunch boxes, change of clothes, jackets, etc.). And finally, just a reminder to check every so often on our website, www.happydayspreschoolnj.com, for pictures of your kids in action. We very much appreciate your referrals and give $100 referral awards.
