October 2015 Newsletter

The beginning of the school year has gotten off to a wonderful start! Your children have adjusted so nicely to their new routines in the classroom. The students downstairs are learning how to find their cubbies by finding their names and pictures. Our letter of the week helps focus their letter recognition, and they are beginning to join in on our morning songs. Miss Victoria holds up a picture of each child and that child has to place his/her picture on the “In School” area of our attendance board. They are enjoying holding and sharing their weekly Show and Tell items and working on our computer educational programs. Our older students upstairs are starting to sign in when they arrive, are bringing lots of “evidence” of our letter of the week, greeting friends coming into our circle time meeting, and are also learning to sing the morning songs.

Both classes work on weekly themes in the mornings and afternoons. Letters and numbers are taught as they come up within the content. For example, the classes spent time one week concentrating on nursery rhymes, so our letter of the week was N. Miss Laura's class is starting a cooking class once a week. She will read the recipe on a big chart to the children as she points to each step and draws attention to the various amounts of ingredients needed for each step; such as 2 cups of something or ½ bag of something. When Miss Victoria was teaching about apples, the letter of the week was A, she had her little ones tracing A's with salt, and she conducted an experiment with apples, baking soda, and vinegar to make apple volcano explosions. Our new themes in October will be fire safety, pumpkins, Where the Wild Things Are, and Halloween in the mornings. Our afternoons throughout the year will rotate between full weeks of Social Studies, Math, Science, and Literacy. October's afternoon themes will be the fall, pumpkin math, spiders/bats, and fall literacy.

I hope your children enjoyed the Fun Bus on September 21st! They certainly seemed to have a wonderful time doing the obstacle course set up inside the bus. Upcoming October events: We hope you will be able to join us for our Back to School Night this Thursday, October 1st. Miss Laura's presentation is from 6:30-7:00 PM and Miss Victoria's is from 7:15-7:45 PM. Come meet the staff who work with your children, hear about our programs, your child's day, meet other parents, and sign up for our Halloween party, parent/teacher conferences at the end of November, and a parent phone number list. The Stafford Fire Department will be here on Monday, October 5th at 11:00 AM to show the kids the fire trucks, for us to meet some firemen and women, and to talk about fire safety. If your child does not attend on Mondays, feel free to drop them off between 10:45 and 11:45 that morning. The Stafford Township Lions Club will be coming to Happy Days on Monday, October 19th and Thursday October 22nd to conduct eye screens for any child age 3 and up. Permission slips will be coming home. Our Halloween celebration will be on Friday, October 30th at 10:00 AM. All parents are welcome to watch our Halloween parade, join us for our pumpkin search, and enjoy some goodies. Our first Friday Night Babysitting will also be on Friday, October 30th from 5:30-8:30 PM.

We will be having two fundraisers in order to have the special enrichment programs like the Fun Bus, music programs, puppet shows, etc. that we will have throughout the school year. Our fall program will be going home at the end of the month.

Please remember that tuition is due on the 1st of each month and that after the 5th there is a $10 late charge. If you ever need to leave your child past your pick up time or earlier than your drop off time, please call the school. The charge is $8/hour ($2 every 15 minutes). The rate is $4/hour if on a regular basis. Please be on time for your child's pickup. Please remember to label all of your child's items (lunchboxes, changes of clothes, jackets, etc.).

And finally, just a reminder to check every so often on our website www.happydayspreschoolnj.com for pictures of your children in action. We appreciate your kind referrals and give $100 referral awards.
